At the center of the OFFENES WISSENSLABOR are the city's major scientific institutions: Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, and Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. In their joint alliance, the Berlin University Alliance, they bundle the creative and scientific energy of the city and thus further develop Berlin into one of the leading science locations in Europe.

The OFFENES WISSENSLABOR includes the Berlin ecosystem consisting of non-university research institutions, collections, museums, start-ups, and partners from business, politics, and culture. And last but not least, urban society, because research in Berlin does not take place in a closed ivory tower, but also on the streets of the city, in conversations between people from different backgrounds, in the creative atmosphere of this unique metropolis - in other words, in the open knowledge laboratory.
